Question about the static code analyzer page

At spinroot.com/static/ is a list of static source code analysis tools for C/C++.  In the first section of that page it lists the Leading Commercial Tools.  The first three tools in the list are labeled "Recommended."

Can you explain what that qualifier means?  How did you arrive at the conclusion that these tools are recommended?

extensive evaluation of each tool (months), a good understanding of the underlying technology of each tool, and an intensive use of these tools on real projects over several years...
ultimately, though, it is only a single datapoint in the wide spectrum of users of static analysis tools
