The number of states while using inline macros or c_code fragments

my program model uses a few inline macros, which are called in most parts of the model (all those inline calls are in d_step sequences).
Thus, I think using embedded c_code, and implementing those inline macros as C functions would decrease the number of states in the model. please correct me, if I am wrong?

a d_step sequence does not introduce any intermediate states -- no matter how long or complicated it is....
