The textbook used in the course seems quite expensive, is there a cheaper alternative - like maybe an older version of the book?

a lot of the material is online at spinroot.com, in the form of tutorials and manpages -- there are also other textbooks that cover the same or similar material of course, but yes textbooks unfortunately are rather expensive. maybe i'll be preparing an e-book version of an updated version of the material
